XR7-Package
The XR-7 designation indicated more than an option package. L-M Division actually assigned XR-7 equipped cars their own unique VIN and equipment body style codes. The first XR-7s were offered mid-year, 1967 and remained an integral part of the Cougar line through 1973. Beginning in 1969, XR-7s were offered in both hardtop and convertible body styles.
While XR-7 equipment varied somewhat over the years, the basics included:
- Unique interior with wood-tone trim
- Full instrumentation
- Leather seating areas
- Overhead console ('67-'68)
- Map pockets and door pulls
- Special interior lighting
- Toggle or rocker switch panel
- Special warning lights
- Three-spoke steering wheel
- Exterior and interior badges
