Cobra Jet 428 4V

1968 Engines:

There was good news under the hood for Cougar buyers in 1968. First, the standard 289 2V was replaced by a little hotter 2V 302 with ten more h.p. (Dealers, however, were notified on 12/15/67 that non-XR-7s built after after that date might be equipped with the 289 2V due to a shortage of 302 engines.)

The option list included a 4 bbl version of the new 302, plus two and four bbl versions of the Marauder 390. The hot 427 was also available (standard in the GT-E), but was replaced mid-year by the slightly tamer Cobra Jet CJ 428.
