Classic Cougar Drive Trains: 1972
1972 Engines:
For the first time in Cougar's history, options were limited to one basic engine, the 351 Cleveland. It was available in two versions: the standard 2V and the optional CJ 4V. Keep in mind that, while the engines were detuned with lower compression ratios, 1972 was the first year auto manufacturers used the more realistic SAE Net horsepower calculation which yielded much lower numbers.
